St Boniface Gardens Ventnor - Enchanting top floor apartment with sea views

3 Bedrooms, Sleeps 6, Garden

An enchanting three bedroom top floor split level apartment set within this imposing four storey Victorian dwelling where historic figure Karl Marx is known to have stayed in 1881/1883, as shown by its ‘blue plaque’. A landmark on the way into Ventnor from Shanklin and being at quite a height, the views out to sea and over the Downs are absolutely stunning.

There is a good feel about this place with bags of character, high ceilings and plenty of space. There are comfortable furnishings in the lounge, separate dining room and three separate bedrooms. Overall this double-glazed apartment is split over three levels which only adds to the charm of this unusual yet idyllic holiday home.

There is everything need for a relaxing break: books galore, a games chest, visitors' resources, beach equipment and a well equiped kitchen.

Close by is the quaint old town of Ventnor with it's fair share of antique and souvenir shops, tea rooms, café's, restaurants and public houses. Slightly further down is the esplanade itself and the ever popular sandy beach, harbour and pubs. This is a truly typical seaside town with a great sense of fun for all. Picturesque Bonchurch and its famous pond is just a short stroll away.

There are paths and walkways leading in all directions, with breath-taking scenery quite literally on your doorstep. You can bring your dog too. St Boniface Down, Wheelers Bay, Steephill Cove and the Botanical Gardens are all well worth a visit. Other local attractions include Isle of Wight Glass, St Catherine's Lighthouse at Niton, Blackgang Chine near Chale and of course, further afield, The Needles at Alum Bay, which is only a drive away and one of many great days out on this wonderful island, which was once described as a “little paradise” by Karl Marx himself.

As described by Claire Balding on the BBC4 television programme 'Britain by Bike'.

E Type 50th Anniversary Tour

As a classic Jaguar owner/driver and to celebrate this landmark anniversary we have out together a short break and a suggested route for you:

Day One:
Arrive on the island via Red Funnel ferries to East Cowes. The ferry crossing can be booked at any time to suit you. It is then a short drive to visit Osbourne House, former home to Queen Victoria. The drive cross-country, on some delightfully quiet lanes, through Newchurch and onto Ventnor. Stop and visit the renowned Garlic Farm, with an amazing array of the bulbs and everything (and more) to do with garlic.

Day Two:
Explore the western side of the island today, heading along the coast to Blackgang and the superb road to Freshwater. Continue to Alum Bay to see the Needles, and then drive onto the pretty port of Yarmouth for lunch. Then head to Newtown, famed for its National Trust properties, and then along the seafront to Cowes, Britain’s yachting capital. Enjoy a stroll around Cowes, and indulge in a spot of shopping. Then head south to Carisbrooke Castle, and visit this amazing medieval building and wander around the ramparts. Continue south to the idyllic villages of Brighstone and Mottistone, where you can visit the manor. Return to Ventnor on the back roads in plenty of time for dinner!

Day Three:
Discover the island’s eastern half starting with a visit to Appuldurcombe House, with its Owl & Falconry Centre. Continue to Godshill, which is an ideal place to stop for coffee (or hot chocolate Chocolate Island). Drive along some of the wonderful small lanes, wiggling your way up to Newport, to visit the excellent Classic Boat Museum, and the Bus Museum next door. After your visit head over Brading Downs to Ryde, on the north coast of the island. Drive along the esplanade, past the pier, and head on to the lovely village of Bembridge. Then on to Adgestone Vineyard for some samples of their fine wines, before heading to Shanklin old village. Return to Ventnor via the quaint village of Bonchurch. Sample the fare in one of our best restautants.

Day Four:
Return to Cowes via the pretty village of Godshill. Once in Southampton, depart for home.
